The first World March to circle the earth calling for the end of war and nuclear weapons, and the elimination of violence of all kinds (physical, economic, racial, religious, cultural, sexual, psychological). Join the March and help build a new, global, nonviolent consciousness!
The World March, which called for the end of war and nuclear weapons, and the elimination of violence of all kinds, began in Wellington, Aotearoa-New Zealand on October 2, 2009, the anniversary of Gandhi´s birth, and ended in the Andes on January 2, 2010.
The March lasted 90 days, travelled through 90 countries over all six continents, and was celebrated by activities and events involving millions of people along and beyond its route. It passed through all climates and seasons, from the hot summer of the tropics and deserts, to the icy cold of Siberia and Antarctica.
The beginning of the World March included launches of two permanent peace walks – the Auckland Peace Heritage Walk and the Wellington Peace Heritage Walk.
The World March ended on 2 January 2010 but the campaigning continues. See Peace Initiatives and World Peace March international website for more information.
